To this point of the journey, we have been focusing on our own
needs as individuals and as educators. As we have learned, self-care
is vitally important. The alternative of self-negligence can sap us
of the mental, physical, and spiritual resources necessary if we are
to extend ourselves to others. We have now reached the point where we
have gained the skills and knowledge requisite for self-care. Through
regular practice of self-care, we will begin to gain and maintain our
ability to serve others. As this happens, we may begin to turn
outward again, sharing what we have learned with others. Let's return
to our case study and see how Sandy begins this part of the
journey.
